Chatelaine F395
-
Chatelaine. Silver, Dutch cir 1780. The clock which was made in London as most of these clocks were, is engraved inside. It is by Walker of London cir 1760. The case is Dutch silver with a probably mythological scene. The clock has no broken parts, the movement and spring are fine but it needs a careful clean. It goes but does not keep good time. A clean will cost approx £250.
The ornate silver clip shows mythological figures such as Bacchus. There is a pin cushion and thimble holder, scissors in their sheath, a needle case, a note book [probably English] and the clock in a silver case with key. Long 13 ins or 46 cms long, it is an impressive piece in very good condition. Hard to say if pieces are original they may have been added over time. There are also little bells and charms.
