Sewing box. Late 18th century Piano shaped sewing and musical box in a feathered or ‚flamed‚ wood. Four black legs, two ormolu escutcheons. Size 30 cms or a foot long x 20cms or 8ins across.
One lid lifts up to show the keyboard with wooden keys. An original mirror in the lid. Underneath the keyboard there is the single musical movement that winds from underneath. It is a charming tune with intricate harmonies and plays a good few minutes.
The main lid lifts up to reveal a mirror [original] , and a satin piano shaped cushion which then reveals the mother-of-pearl and gold fittings, all in excellent condition. An 18ct gold thimble; m-o-p tiny pick and ear spoon, a cut glass scent bottle, a m-o-pearl needle case in a quiver shape ready to send out arrows of love. Steel scissors; silver bodkin, mother-of-pearl scissors with birds necks entwined, a m-o-p stiletto, an ear spoon, two m-o-p cotton holding spools, a little round gold box with m-o-p lid and a m-o-p winder.
