    Silver gilt gem set chatelaines.

Probably from the Austro-Hungarian Empire influenced by the rich ornate designs popular across Europe in the mid to late 19th century. They are featured in N.Taunton‚s book ‚Chatelaines‚ where they are listed as Russian, but with no supporting evidence.

Made in silver gilt, set with cultured baroque pears and cabochon garnets of a size not found today. The ornate chains show different male faces interspersed with cherubs playing and delicate hands. They each measure approx 9ins or 20cms long. One with a thimble holder, the other with possibly a tape measure holder, with fobs and watch keys, probably for customers to personalise with items on purchasing. Excellent condition. They are probably a pair but can be sold singly. Each one is £550, the pair is £900.

    Stock number: F524.
